Oscar Grant was a young Black male killed from a point-blank shot in the back while handcuffed by a BART police officer on New Year's Day 2009. A decision was reached today in the trial of the cop that murdered him, Johannas Mehserle. The only verdict that would have been worse in fairness would have been not guilty. He was found guilty but not of the most extreme and when compared with the evidence correct charge of 2ND degree Murder. No, he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. This guilty should be imprisoned for this insane verdict.
This country has been built by the sweat of the Black man's brow and the strength of his back. It has been clothed by the cotton farmed by the Black man, and fed by his work in the fields. The least this country could do for the Black man is be fair to him.
